Doing sai kang job during area cleaning... the only school helping out with the rubbish bin ... Guess what a CI (definitely not our school) said during area cleaning...

Campcraft Theory

Hello. This is for those who lost their campcraft theory paper.

Stopper Knots.

Thumb knot
-used as a handhold and stopper. For instance, it is tied at regular intervals of lifelines to prevent the rope from slipping through the hands.
-once tied and put under strain, it is difficult to untie.

Figure-of-Eight Knot.
-When tied and put under strain, it is much easier to be untied.

Loop Knots.

Bowline
-The bowline does not jam or slip easily despite under severe strain.
-It may not hold, if very rigid and slippery synthetic ropes are used. For extra security, we can tie a stopper knots of 2 half hitches around the loop.
-It is used to secure a rope to a ring or eye.

Tent Guy Loop
-Acts as a pully, giving mechanical advantage in the tightening of guylines.

Manharness
-The loop can act as a handle for hauling of object.

Fireman's Chair
-It is used to lower a casualty from a higher ground.

Hitches (Used to tie a rope to an object, like a spar, ring or another rope)

Clove Hitch
-Made of 2 half hitches, it can secure a rope to an object. For example, it is used to start and anchor rope obstacles.

Timber Hitch
-The tightness of the hitch depends on the strain. The greater the strain the tighter it becomes. However it is very easy to untie.

Bends

Reef Knot
-used for parcel tying as well as first aid bandanging because it is flat and easy to tie.
-compared to other bends, it is not secure as it comes undone easily.

Sheet Bend
-used for joining ropes together, esp those of unequal thickness.
-Quick and easy to tie and untie.
-can be further secured by making an additional turn, forming double sheet bend.
-ending the working ends at alternate sides would weaken this knots severely.

Fisherman's Knot
-made of two sliding thumb knot, which will lock with each other when strain is applied.
-It applies in joining ropes together, esp those of small and equal diameters,

Shortening Formations

Sheepshank
-It shortens ropes without cutting them.
-can be used to bypass worn section by placing the damaged section in the centre of the knot. It will thus not be put under strain.
-The half hitches at two ends will ensure that when there is no strain, the knot undo itself easily.

Chain Knot
-shortens ropes esp those of small diameters, For eg, male cadets shorten their bootlaces using this knot.
-It can be undone quickly by a pull.

Our NPCC Song - NPCC March

NPCC March-lyrics
We will be faithful and always steadfast
Loyalty and service that's our aim
To serve with pride, ever looking forward
Marching onward all the time

Chorus

NPCC! Let's join hands
Uphold the law preserve the peace
NPCC! Let’s join hands
Marching onward all the time

Between all races, there is no barrier
In NPCC we all join hands
To stand by Singapore in her endeavours
Serving our land all the time
Chorus (X2)

*Even though the lyrics is more important , just letting you know how the song sounds like.

NPCC MISSION AND VISION

The MISSION of the National Police Cadet Corps is to develop its cadets into caring and responsible citizens.

The VISION of the National Police Cadet Corps is to mould the builders of a safe and secure home.

NPCC PLEDGE

We, the members of the National Police Cadet Corps, do here and now solemnly and sincerely pledge that:

We will always bear true faith and allegiance to the President and our Republic of Singapore.
We will always be loyal and true to our country, our people and the government.
We will always be prepared to serve our country and community.
We will always preserve the peace and uphold the law.

***Please take note all those pledge etc stated above is super duper x100 important.

A link on animated knots for you to revise at home. Please buy twine before thinking of training at home okay. LOL. Icon minimart next to school got sell.

http://www.animatedknots.com/indexscouting.php

Round Lash: http://www.bsatroop542.org/Knots_RoundLashing.htm
PS: If you look at the picture in the link, you will notice that the clove hitch is tied between the two poles. By doing this, it will losen the tention of the twine. So what you could do is to tie it at the side of the pole instead of in between the two poles when you wanna start the round lash and end the round lash

Square Lash: http://www.artworkbygerry.com/Lashings/squarelashing.html

Shear Lash:  http://www.bsatroop780.org/skills/Lashing.html
Note that the shear lash is below the round lash. Look for it.

*Sec2s are only needed to know how to tie all 5 family knots, shear lash, square lash and round lash for campcraft practical. And you are needed to know all knots and lashings uses etc for theory. Tent pitching is not needed.

*Sec3s are needed to know ALL THE LASHINGS AND 5 FAMILY KNOTS.  And you are needed to know all knots and lashings uses etc for theory. Tent pitching is not needed.

Sec2 cadets who needs help/ has any clarifications regarding drills or campcraft , feel free to ask me, your TC/mentors incharge. DONT SHY OKAY!
